Why does mesmer hero AI suck?
Ok who else is having this problem. I can't get mesmers to do anything what I tell them. They never follow up on any target even if you lock on your hero's target. They'll probably wand that guy, but casts all of their hexes on some other random target. I was trying to do vq the ice flow and I brought gwen with a few interrupts, empathy, vor, and diversion for all those mursaat monks who spam orison and aura of faith with infinite energy. Apparently, Gwen has no idea how to use diversion on a monk. I target the monk, click diversion on the skill bar, and she will use it on a completely different target. I eventually dped out with all the mursaat groups because it took too long to take those monks down. Why cant mesmer AI be a bit more... predictable?

I've never had this problem with my mesmers, or any other profession with mesmer spells for that matter. Compared to humans, they are much better interrupters when locked, and they do a pretty job casting hexes on a locked target. Perhaps it is an error on your part. I have noticed that if, for example, you lock your Gwen on X, then you yourself switch to Y and command Gwen to cast diversion, she'll cast it on Y (and she will lock on Y).
If you want your mesmer heroes to cast a specific hex on a specific target, it isn't just enough to 'lock them'. The only thing locking your heroes will do is make them attack only that target while unsupervised. So yeah, I'm pretty sure it was an error on your part. I, as a ranger, hate entrusting interrupts to heros, both mesmers and rangers. The only thing I can be sure a hero will do is use BHA when I tell him to. I see way too many nukes get through when I bring a mes hero on other chars (and I can see that they have a recharged interrupt), which is what I really care about them tagging. Who cares about them catching the 1/2 second cast flare consistently (in HM), when they never go for the 1 second Rodgort's most PUG mesmers could catch?

I'm with the pro-mesmer crowd here, my guildies and I almost always have Gwen with us on anything in HM and she does wonderfully. Maybe once per area we're like "WTF GWEN??!?!?" and tbh, once per area is more than good enough for me.
I'd put money on the bad build more than the bad AI. |

Mesmer heroes do amazing things for me. Interrupts, proper hexing, and even fast cast rezing when needing.

i have gwen all runed out and equipped on all 10 characters...
mesmer hero has not let me down yet... i run domination with empathy, interrupts, and expel hexes. waste not, want not works nicely for energy management. havent experimented with diversion though. i typically kill the target too fast for diversion to matter |
